Special Civic Engagement Program Recognition Awards

SERVE LEARN LEAD Awards. Beginning in 2006, Special SERVE LEARN LEAD Recognition Awards were presented to BCC administrators, community partners, faculty, and students who made significant contributions to the Civic Engagement program during that year at the Annual Civic-Engagement Recognition Breakfast. The winners of the community partner and faculty awards were determined by service-learning and community service students’ votes.

Community Service Leader Awards. Starting in 2008, students who were actively engaged in either service-learning or community service and then helped recruit, train and supervise at least 5 peers for a community service project, earned the designation Community Service Leader and received a Community Service Leader Certificate of Accomplishment. They also wear a red cord and are publicly recognized at their commencement.

Civic Engagement Certificates. At the end of the academic year, all students who completed a Service-Learning or Community Service project and submitted a contract to the Civic Engagement program clerk are awarded a Certificate of Accomplishment.

All faculty who had students who performed service-learning for a course and community partners who provided placements for students receive a Certificate of Appreciation, as do the members of the Civic Engagement Advisory Board.

Charles Marcavage Memorial Scholarship for Outstanding Participation in Civic Engagement. This annual award is given to one or two students who demonstrate financial need, with a preference to Service-Learning and/or community service participants.
