Overview of Advising
Students are paired with advisors based on his/her academic program and the advisor's specialty. In some instances, students are assigned to a staff member in the Advising Center. Each semester, students receive a letter regarding the forthcoming scheduling assistance and registration period (Therefore, it is important for a student to maintain up-to-date address information with the Records Office). Sign up for BEE Notified and keep your contact information up-to-date in your accessBCC account.
The advisor will use the BCC catalog, ask you questions about your plans at or beyond BCC and interpret your test scores (English, reading, arithmetic and algebra). All these factors and more (day and/or night classes, course prerequisites, etc.) will be incorporated with your program requirements to help you create a class schedule. Students may also receive an information card listing their faculty advisor's name, campus office and telephone number.
We believe that relationships between students and their advisors are crucial to students' success. BCC’s Academic Advisors are here to provide you with the best possible advising that will guide you towards reaching your academic, career, transfer and personal goals. Please stop by and see your advisor on a regular basis — you'll be glad you did!
