Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS®)

APPLICANTS ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND THE MANDATORY HEALTH SCIENCE INFORMATION SESSION BEFORE REGISTERING FOR THE TEAS. PLEASE CALL THE ADMISSIONS OFFICE AT 774.357.2947 TO SIGN UP.

A computerized scholastic aptitude assessment, TEAS is one component of the selection process for admitting students into the Nursing and Dental Hygiene programs. The goal is to predict those candidates with the highest likelihood of academic success.

The MATH subtest covers whole numbers, metric conversion, fractions and decimals, algebraic equations, percentages, and ratio/proportion. READING covers paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension, and inferences/conclusions. The ENGLISH subtest measures knowledge of punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, contextual words, and spelling. The SCIENCE portion of the exam covers science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, basic physical principles, and general science.

TEAS is a 170-item, computerized, timed, multiple-choice assessment. It takes about three and a half (3.5) hours to complete.

Registration and Fees

  • REGISTRATION: Enrollment Center, G Building, Fall River campus.
  • The Enrollment Center is open Monday-Thursday 8:00am to 7:00pm, Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm and Saturday 8:00am to 2:00pm.
  • The registration fee is $70.00 and is nonrefundable/nontransferable. Payment can be made by cash, check, money order, Visa, Mastercard or Discover.
  • Deadline to register is by the close of business the day prior to the exam.  Registrations are accepted on a first come, first served basis.
  • Applicants who cancel or fail to show up on the date of the test will be required to complete another registration form and pay the full registration fee when rescheduling.

Day of Exam 

  • Location: Fall River Campus, G Building, Room 218. If you are late, you will not be allowed to enter the test room.
  • Required: Valid picture ID. Students will not be allowed to test without photo identification.
  • Prohibited
    • Food or Drink
    • Textbooks or reference books of any kind 
    • Sunglasses, hats or a hood
    • Communication Devices (cell phones, iPods, MP3players, etc.)
    • Personal calculators 
    • Scratch paper (will be provided at exam and collected)

Retests

In the event an applicant wishes to retake the test a second time, sixty (60) days must elapse between the original test date and the retake. The applicant is required to complete a registration form and pay the full fee.

Disability Services

If you are requesting testing accommodations due to a documented disability, please contact your learning specialist to arrange your accommodations. If you are not a current BCC student, register with the office by contacting 774-357-2955. Please allow 4-6 weeks for processing your documentation.

Test Results

Applicants must achieve a composite score that falls at or above the 50th percentile.

Test results that are more than three (3) years old from the test date will not be accepted.

Applicants who have taken the TEAS at another institution must have an official copy of the test results sent to the Office of Admissions. This may be requested through Assessment Technologies Institute at www.atitesting.com

Transcripts

Students requesting a transcript of scores for another school must request directly through Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) at 1-800-667-7531.
