Bristol Community College

The 2013 Valedictorian is Jodi Rapoza.

The Engineering Technology program graduate was chosen Valedictorian based on her academic excellence and College and community activities.

Jodi, a single mother of two, lost her job in photo finishing but could not replace her income. She said, “[My] job was gone – a casualty of the digital age. Essentially, the skills and talents I had developed… were completely antiquated – useless in today’s economy.”

“You don’t want to live paycheck to paycheck," she said. "Community colleges lead back to those middle class positions that were annihilated by the economy."

Enrolling at BCC was a decision she made while discussing the future with her son. As she tells it: “As I was talking to my oldest son about what he was going to do after high school and encouraging him to go to college, I realized that all the reasons why I wanted him to go to college applied to me, too.”

She decided to return to school to get better skills and after completing a co-op job successfully passed the requirements to earn her water treatment license.

Jodi graduates with a 3.99 G.P.A., and says she has her “dream job” – working as a drinking water technician for the Fall River Water Department.
