Bristol Community College Athletics announces coach for new tennis team
Bristol Community College Athletics adds varsity tennis this spring and has named Wayne Turner, Jamestown, RI, the first head coach.
Turner, head coach of the Providence College Lady Friars from 2004-2008, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the tennis program. In 2004 his squad brought home the first New England Championship team title since 1998. Prior to him taking over the Lady Friars program, he spent time as the Assistant Coach for the Men's and Women's Tennis program at Providence College from 1998-2004.
The Bristol Bees will compete as a varsity co-ed team within the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The 2012 schedule is set and consists of ten matches. The season begins on March 31 at the BCC, Elsbree St. Campus, when the Bristol Bees take on Mercer College, West Windsor, NJ at 9 a.m., and Suffolk County Community College, Selden, NY, at 3 p.m.
BCC will compete for the Region XXI title with the Community College of Rhode Island. The NJCAA Nationals will be held on May 13-18, 2012 at Collin County Community College in Plano, TX.
