About the show
THEN and NOW is the first in an occasional series of exhibitions that focuses on the work of Bristol Community College alumni. The Art and Design Program has come a long way since its inception in the late 1960s, but its goal has always been to provide a solid preparatory arts foundation experience for the students who enroll here.  The program’s first coordinator, Marion Wilner, strongly advocated for a rigorous program in the study of art and insisted that it was vital to the social and economic well-being and growth of our region.

The first show this semester brings the works of Chuck Boucher and Angela Dispirito together for the first time.

Chuck Boucher graduated from BCC in 1984. He graduated from Swain School of Design, which merged with UMass Dartmouth in 1988, and today many of BCC’s graduates go on to complete their junior and senior years there.
Boucher has had a successful career both as an artist and writer. His work has been displayed in more than 50 exhibitions and has published two novels and a series of short stories. He has also taught and mentored artists at various levels of development in their careers.

Angela Dispirito is a recent graduate from BCC and last semester graduated from UMass. Dispirito’s life and work as a student was recently featured in a short film produced for UMD profiles. As a December 2011 graduate, her career has just begun and the show is one of the first opportunities to watch it unfold.

The show opens on Thursday, January 26, 2012, with an artists’ reception from 6-8 p.m. (Weather date: Friday, January 27, 2012.) The show runs until February 23, Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday,  1-4 pm; and Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, 10 am - 1pm.  Admission is free and open to the public.
