Annual Cake Show at Bristol Community College features lively competitions, free demonstrations and baked goodies
You’ve seen the Cake Boss, now check out local competitors as they bake, sculpt, and decorate their way to victory as aces of cakes at this year’s SkillsUSA Cake Show fund-raiser at Bristol Community College. The Cake Show takes place on Saturday, March 31, from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. in the Commonwealth College Center. The entrance fee is $10, and may be paid at the door.
High school students, novice bakers, professional chefs, and even a field of youngsters ages 5, 7, and 9 will compete for the top spot in their categories as attendees get a first-hand look at their skills.
Novice, professional, and post secondary competitors will be tasked with creating a wedding and/or season/holiday cake. High school students and the younger competitors are charged with designing a fashion and glamour and open design cake.
Students from Bristol Community College’s Culinary Arts Program will be selling food and beverages for attendees to enjoy at the show while they take in a competition or check out free demonstrations. Local aspiring food entrepreneurs will also be selling pastries, cookies, cakes, and products for baking at this year’s event.
Now in its fifth year, the annual Cake Show is a fundraiser for SkillsUSA, a nonprofit organization that helps high school and college students train for careers in trade, technical and skilled service occupations. A full schedule will be posted and priced on the College’s website by March 1, 2012.
Those interested in registering to compete, taking paid classes, or exhibiting as a vendor, should contact Gloria Cabral at 508.678.2811 ext. 2940 or email: Gloria Cabral. Limited space is available.
