The Holocaust Center at Bristol Community College originated from a need to memorialize the atrocities committed against the people of Jewish descent and others during World War II by the Hitler/Nazi regime.
While the facts are clear, the Holocaust must never be forgotten.
I wanted to first thank you for your support of the Holocaust Center this past year. We had a successful series of programs both in the fall and spring. We held two conferences: one in the fall for teachers sponsored by the US Holocaust Memorial Museum and in the spring on Native American Genocide with the BCC History Department. We also had a number of speakers including a survivor and a noted Shoah scholar this past semester and others in the fall. Our button campaign (see attached) is going very well with buttons coming in almost every day. Our goal of 1.5 million buttons is very ambitious but who knows.
Plans are already going forward for programs for next year including presentations by Ilana Offenberger, Manya Bark and Kathleen Pearle in the fall and noted Brown University historian Omar Bartov and University of Michigan dramatist, Hank Greenberg in the spring. A possible conference on the T-4, program which carried out the murder of people with disabilities, is being considered also for the spring.
Perhaps one of the biggest programs we have offered to date is planned for the fall which is an exhibit of the works of Samuel Bak, a Holocaust survivor and world class artist which we are doing in collaboration with Kathleen Hancock and the BCC Art Gallery. This will be held from October 24 - December 4, 2017.
Finally, we are fortunate to have support from the college and two organizations in the area. However, much of our money comes from individual contributions. I realize that many worthy groups are asking for your support. However, if you are able we would appreciate any contributions you would like to make towards our work. All funds go through the BCC Foundation and can be made on a one time basis or even on an ongoing basis through the Foundation’s Employee Giving Program (Click here to learn more).
Take care and have a good summer.
