Certificate and Work Opportunity

The College will issue a certificate upon satisfactory completion of this course and participants receiving a certificate will be given the opportunity to interview with TransFluenciSM for potential employment as interpreters.

This program will prepare interpreters to work in:

  • Hospitals
  • Health clinics
  • Law offices
  • Governmental agencies
  • Insurance Companies
  • School Systems
  • And more

Learning Objectives:

  • Overview of the profession and professional settings
  • Sight translation
  • Consecutive and simultaneous interpreting practice
  • Role-playing
  • Note-taking techniques
  • Readings in the field
  • Exercises for building memory and concentration
  • Discussion of practices, standards, and ethics
  • Vocabulary in the medical and legal fields
  • Advice on how to find (and keep) a job as an interpreter

*The number of jobs for interpreters and translators will grow as businesses continue to expand their operations into other countries. As a result, workers will be needed to help American workers communicate with their non-English speaking coworkers. In addition, growth of the Internet and the need to have websites in several languages will contribute to job growth. Another reason for job growth is that the military needs additional interpreters and translators in Iraq.
