What do Therapeutic Massage Therapists do?

With a history dating back thousands of years, licensed Massage Therapists are trained to manipulate patients’ muscles and other tissues of the body to promote general well-being or to treat specific injury and illness, as part of traditional or complementary healthcare. Massage Therapy offers a flexible healthcare career with varied, independent and self driver opportunities. For those who are practicing healthcare professionals, this program will enhance the skills used in nursing, occupational therapy, and home healthcare.

What is the job market for Licensed Massage Therapists?

Employment opportunities for Massage Therapists are varied. They can go into private practice or team up with other healthcare professionals looking to offer patients a broad range of services. Massage therapists can work at spas, holistic centers or health clubs; or they can work with medical doctors, chiropractors, rehabilitation centers and nursing homes to complement patient care. In 2009, the average annual income for a massage therapist who provides approximately 16 hours of massages per week was $37,123.

How quickly can you become a Licensed Massage Therapist?
