Occupational Therapy Assistant

What is Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program?

Occupational Therapy Assistants work in direct patient care, helping people of all ages gain everyday living skills. Occupational Therapy Assistants help those who have physical or mental/emotional challenges learn or relearn the skills they need to function. In the Occupational Therapy Assistant program, students develop academic knowledge, clinical skills, and professional behavior through classroom, lab, and clinical experiences.

Can I become fully accredited when I’m finished with the OTA program?

Yes, graduates are eligible to sit for the National Certification Examination. The eHealthCareers program has received developing program status by the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education.

What is the employment outlook for an Occupational Therapy Assistant?

Graduates have taken positions as Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants in area schools, acute care, rehab and psychiatric hospitals, residential and day rehabilitation programs, sub-acute rehab, transitional care and outpatient settings.

Those interested in nursing or other healthcare fields typically find occupational therapy skills enhance their patient care and their employability.

Are there other opportunities upon completing the OTA program?

Graduates may transfer Occupational Therapy programs at senior institutions, with many baccalaureate programs designed to allow you to work while you pursue your Bachelor’s Degree. The College participates in the statewide MassTransfer program and has developed many program-to-program transfer articulation agreements which guarantee admission and credit transfer. What are the requirements to enter the Occupational Therapy Assistant program?

  • High school or college algebra 1.
  • Passing grades in college level biology, English 101 and Psychology 101(B- or better)
  • A letter of interest in entering the Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
