What is Early Alert?
Early Alert is an intervention system designed to help faculty and staff identify and provide support and interventions to students who are experiencing challenges and are at the risk of failing. Early alert systems foster greater collaboration between Academic Affairs and Student Services to strengthen our overall student support structure. Advising will use a software product called SAGE to receive Early Alert information which may create referrals to the CARE Team.
What is the CARE Team?
The CARE Team (Concern - Assessment - Referral - Evaluation) will reach out and connect with identified students of concern, as appropriate. The CARE Team will then assess, refer, and evaluate students who are experiencing significant challenges, displaying odd or unusual behaviors, or engaging in other behaviors that may be perceived as being harmful (either to themselves or to others). The CARE Team will then communicate any interventions applied and remain in regular contact with the student and the referrer with any additional support. The CARE Team is made up of representatives from the following areas: Counseling and Health, Student Conduct, Academic Affairs, Campus Police, Advising, Learning Commons, and Student Services.
How do I use the Early Alert system?
We hope you will help us further support student success by notifying us earlier if you notice a student needing support. The process to do so is simple:
- Select “Early Alert” under My Apps
- Your course sections will be listed on the left
- Select the course
- Select the student(s) of concern
- Complete the form and hit submit

Our goal with Early Alert and the CARE Team is to improve retention, persistence, and graduation rates by providing additional interventions and contact that addresses student needs as soon as possible.
